The Joy of Fonts

There are so many beautiful fonts out there. I find that looking for a font for a design piece is exciting. I especially love the “ah ha!” moment when you find the perfect one. What is your favorite font?

Personal Project – Celebraciones

Music has always been

a driving force in my life. I began performing professionally at age 9, singing and playing guitar/mandolin with several audition-only, children’s music groups. Once in my mid-teens, my sister Jackie and I moved towards performing solely as a duet. I received a bulk of my classical vocal training at the University of New Mexico as a vocal pedagogy student. In 1998, I began my solo career in earnest with the release of my album, Eternamente. Over the years, I have had the joy of sharing my music with people at venues that ranged from large concert halls to living rooms.

Celebraciones Album Art

Over the years, my artistic training has broadened and I have the skills to not just do the musical side of this, but the design and printing side as well.  November 27th, 2010 I performed and recorded my new album before a live studio audience. After getting the mix done, I began designing the cd face, booklet and tray card. Each cd will be hand assembled by me, as this is a fully personal project. I also wanted to do a total revamp of the website to coincide with the album release and last night everything went live! I hope you take some time to check it out, listen to some music and enjoy.

The Sketchbook Project – 2011 Tour

With restrained excitement, I opened the manila envelope that came in the mail. A crisp, new Moleskin sketchbook slid effortlessly out into my hand. It’s finally here!

A few weeks ago, I stumbled on a website called The Sketchbook Project.  They are tagging it, “It’s like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.” Artists from across the globe receive a 8.5×5.5 blank moleskin to fill with their artwork. Once completed, the sketchbooks are sent back to the Project headquarters by January 15th, 2011, where they are readied for the tour around the United States, and will permanently reside in The Brooklyn Art Library.

The theme I chose is Happy Thoughts. I decided that these would not just be my happy thoughts, but include those of my readers and friends. My request from you, is to post a few of your happy thoughts in the comments. Please include your first name and location. Be as detailed or spartan as you wish. I will then include at least one of your happy thoughts in my sketchbook.

I have opted for the digital version of the book to be created, so once I get the URL, I’ll be posting it here!

Living + Eating + Breathing Design

http://52projects.com/52-projects-the-book/A couple years ago I had the pleasure of picking up a book, highly recommended by one of my friends called 52 Projects, by Jeffrey Yamaguchi. Mr. Yamaguchi wrote about finding something in your life to express your creativity, even if it was something as simple as taking a photo of the same park, from the same spot throughout the year.  Inspired to do a project of my own, I decided to address the fact that I am not a fan of breakfast, but I know it’s “the most important meal of the day”. As a result, my Bento-licious project began.

The Fishbowl Bento

The Fishbowl Bento - The most recognized of my bento set.

Bento has been a part of a personal journey to incorporate beauty and enjoyment into all aspects of my life. I documented each bento with a good photograph and a bit about what went inside the box. I posted them to Flickr regularly, and joined some bento-centric groups.  Suddenly, my bento photos were popping up all over the internet. I was contacted by a publisher out of the UK to be a contributor for a Bento book they were planning on producing. One of my bentos is in a Chinese/English primary book published out of Hong Kong. Funny how something that was done for a personal project ended up going much further.
